Violet Marie Lunney

An angel returned to heaven on September 25, 2016 and while we mourn a powerful loss on earth, heaven is ALIVE! For surely Heaven is filled with her beautiful piano playing and a family gathering that will put all past family 4th of July parties to shame. Violet was a kind gentle woman. She was a storybook Granny to all who would have her. She enjoyed her life, her family and her many friends. She was an inspiration and strength to many.

Born August 13, 1930 on the prairie north of Newcastle, Wyoming to a Yugoslavian immigrant and Polish lady, Nick and Anjella Mitich. She was the 6th child in a family of 10. Growing up on a ranch under the Red Butte, she had little time for mischief but somehow managed anyway.

On October 6, 1946 after a 4-month whirlwind courtship and a proposal while driving home on Highway 85 she married Harlow "Bill" Lunney. Their stories differed but both agreed their first dance on June 22, 1946 at the roundhouse near Four Corners was all they needed to seal the deal.

Violet helped Harlow drive truck, bend tin and treat oil. She raised her four children in a home without indoor plumbing, took care of the chores on the ranch, milking the cows and feeding the chickens even during major snow storms. Yet despite the workload, she still managed to create beautiful lasting memories with her family. Violet was the family historian and remembered everyone and everything. She was a fried and confidante to all.

Violet loved to cook. Every pot and pan in her home holds a special story. Her recipes will be passed on for generations. She also made and decorated cakes for children, grandchildren and friends. One of her most famous creations was a bikini doll cake. Violet taught grandchildren to make hollyhock dolls and to blow on grass to make a whistle. She took care of any stray or wild animal that came in to her yard and cherished her flowers. Violet taught herself to play the piano and the accordion. She was also a superb yodeler and had a sweet singing voice.

Violet leaves behind a lasting legacy in her 4 children. They are her pride and joy. Daughter Esther Edwards, husband Bert, their 6 children, 19 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Daughter Peg Christie, wife Marcia, their 2 sons and 1 grandson, Daughter Lynnda Schroeder husband Frank, their two daughters and 3 great grandchildren. Son Bill Lunney, wife Marilyn, their 3 daughters and 2 grandchildren. Through this rather large, craze family Harlow and VI's passion for life and love of family will live on. Violet also leaves behind her beloved brother Marvin Mitich and his lovely wife Ruthie, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, all of whom added to the richness of her life.

Violet left us to join her soul mate of 70 years, Harlow. They had a deep and loving relationship that death did not part. Her 6 brothers (Alex, Millard, Donald, Larry, Melvin and Tom) and 2 sisters (Betty and Mable), her parents, additional beloved family members and her many friends who have been waiting patiently for her in heaven are surely dancing tonight in the roundhouse amongst the clouds.

Violet may have left our world, but she will still be found in every Polish joke, horse running free, or wildflower enjoyed. When buttermilk pancakes or oatmeal cookies are made of when you hear a door squeak, she will be there. You will hear her in the tinkling of wind chime and when a piano is played and when you look to the sky and see a pretty bird fly by, she will be near.

Violet's last request is for her family to love one another and remain strong together. She would like them to celebrate each other and think of her with happy thoughts and let go of the tears. To Violet, family is everything and loving one another would be her dream comes true. To honor her memory the family requests you to spend some time with a loved one today or reconnect with someone you have forgotten, Life is too short; have no regrets; always be kind.

In lieu of flowers, Violet would like donations made to Weston County Home Health Services, 1124 Washington Blvd. Newcastle, WY 82701. Letters of condolence can be mailed to the family at; P. O. Box 2997, Mills, WY 82644.

Visitation will be one Friday, September 30th from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at The Country Church in Four Corners, Wyoming. Services will be Saturday, October 1st at 10:00 AM in Newcastle, Wyoming at the First United Methodist Church, 23 North Seneca Ave. Interment to follow at Boyd Cemetery in Four Corners, Wyoming. Reception to follow at The Country Church at Four Corners, Wyoming.
