Mrs. Mimi Goode

May 27, 1932 — November 9, 2016

Mimi K. Goode, 84 of Newcastle, died November 9, 2016 at Rapid Regional Hospital, Rapid City, South Dakota. She was born May 27, 1932 at Kansas City, Missouri the daughter of Howard and Joyce (Mann) Ward. The family moved to Newcastle where Mimi graduated from Newcastle High School. She also attended Stephens College in Columbia, MO for one year.

Mimi married Harvey D. Goode June 25, 1950 in Newcastle.

Mimi began her many years of volunteering with the Jay Cee Janes helping to develop the United Fund. From there she went on to be the coordinator of People to People which led to the beginning of the Newcastle Day Care Center. She also volunteered with DPASS which evolved into a paid position as a Public Assistance Worker and eligibility technician. She also distributed the Casper Star Tribune, Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News. She retired in 1987. Realizing that there was a need for immediate assistance for families; she began BREAD: a food pantry staffed by Mimi and several volunteers. She also served as the site manager for the Senior Meals Program. She served as the Chairman for the Democratic Party. Other groups she was involved in included Women's Club, PEO, Girl Scouts, T.O.P.S. and Odds and Ends Bridge Club. Mimi was chosen as the Beta Sigma Phi First Lady of the Year in 1991. She served on the Joint Powers Board for the new Weston County Health Services. Mimi served on the Newcastle City Council from 1993 to 1999. She became president of the Weston County Humane Society and helped with the process of getting the new facility built. She began trapping, feeding and neutering stray cats for many years. As a life long member of Christ Church Episcopal, Mimi was involved in Lay Ministry. She was one of 12 finalists on the ballot for Weston County Citizen of the Century in volunteerism category. She will be missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband: Harvey D. Goode, of Newcastle;; two daughters: Laura Goode Tucson AZ, Wendy Goode (John Rindler) of Laramie WY; three sons; Harvey H Goode (Fran) of Newcastle, Matt Goode (Andrea Tuijl) Tucson, AZ; Greg Goode (Dixie) of Crescent City CA and Vince Gillette (son in law). 5 Grandchildren: Connor & Colton Rindler, Austin & Emerson Goode, and Remi Tuijl-Goode. Also surviving are four great grand children; a sister Melissa Ward of Newcastle and a brother Casey Ward of Salem, OR.
Preceding her in death was a daughter, April Goode, and grandson Cody Raben.
Memorial services will be held November 22nd 2pm at Christ church Episcopal 3105 Summit Avenue, Newcastle WY
Burial will follow services at Greenwood Cemetery.

Family suggests memorial contributions to the Weston County Humane Society and B.R.E.A.D.
