Mrs. Josephine Avina

Josephine C. Avina, 99, of Newcastle, Wyoming died Monday, November 23rd at Weston Manor Nursing Home.
Josephine was born June 26, 1916 in Sopris, Colorado the daughter of Manuela De Herrera and Jose Sabino Cordova. She attended schools in Agular, Colorado and Spearfish, South Dakota. She married Thomas Vargas in February, 1930 at Belle Fourche, South Dakota. Following the death of her husband, she raised seven children on her own. She married Carlos Avina of Osage, Wyoming in 1956. Josephine was known to be cheerful, and made friends easily. She could repair most small plumbing, electric problems and handle a hammer also.

Surviving her are here daughters, Esther Felix, Petra Sholes, Mary Higgins, Elizabeth Holquin, Jennie Trujillo; sons Ralph Vargas and Russell Vargas; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Recitation of the Rosary will be at 6:00 PM Monday, November 30th at Worden Chapel. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, December 1st at Corpus Christi with Father Killian Muli and Deacon Ken Pitlick as celebrants. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery und direction of Worden Funeral Directors of Newcastle.
