Michael Hutt

March 4, 1953 — May 25, 2026

Michael Glen Hutt, 73, passed away at his home in May. A lifelong resident of the Newcastle area, Mike’s roots ran deep in the Wyoming soil. He grew up on a ranch south of Newcastle, attended local schools, and spent a couple of years studying at the University of Wyoming before making Newcastle his permanent home. He was a familiar and dependable face for many years, working as a bus driver for the coal mines outside of Gillette.

Beyond his work, Mike was a man of quiet passions and a great love for the rugged beauty of the West. He was an avid hiker and backpacker who felt most at home on the trails of the Black Hills, the Wind River Range, the Big Horns, and Colorado. He documented his journeys through incredible photography and possessed a fascinating collection of maps, including unique pieces he meticulously drew himself.

Those who knew Mike knew he was a stickler for accuracy and a dedicated researcher. He loved reading history and non-fiction, and he poured that love of detail into studying his own family genealogy.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Glen Hutt and Mary Larson; his sisters, Ilene and Mary Kathleen; his niece, Sheila; and his nephew, JD.

His memory will be cherished by his surviving family: his brother, Daniel (Michelle) Hutt; his sister, Cheryl Thomas; his step-mother, Liz Hutt; his nieces, Laura Ogle (Andrew K), Stacy Moorhead (John H), and Stephanie (Rudy) Hernandez; and his nephews, Aven (Theresa) Hutt, Shannon Thomas (Julie F), and Chris Ogle, along with many grand nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed.
