Lorraine Berg

January 25, 1923 — June 23, 2014

Lorraine Berg, age 91, passed away on June 23, 2014, after a very brief medical incident. She is remembered as the Matriarch of a devoted family. She is survived by her son, Phillip Berg of Newport Beach, California; and five grandchildren, Kim Poling of Orange County, California, Tracy Berg of Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Clinton, Andrew and Matthew Berg of Chicago, Illinois. She also leaves two great grandchildren, Sophie and Luke Berg also of Chicago, Illinois. Lorraine was preceded in death by her son, Gary Berg, who died in Vietnam in 1968. Her loving husband Joseph was taken from her in 1994. Lorraine Berg was born in Ireland, Texas in 1923, in family which included her siblings, Grace, Sybil and Earl Taylor. Her family made their way to Detroit, Michigan and embraced the employment of the Ford Motor Company in the 1940's. Lorraine is remembered as a woman who couldn't stop living. She was an avid Detroit sports fan, an intellectual who was interested in every aspect of the world news, as well as her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren's lives. She lived on her own, with a life threatening medical condition, with full knowledge of the potential outcome. Yet she maintained her home, went to the hairdresser on a weekly basis and had friendships in her neighborhood. While her extended family stretched across the country, she spoke with them every week to keep abreast of their lives. She remembered every event, every story and all birthdays. She was generous and loving to all who knew her. The visitation will be Friday 4:30-7:30 p.m. and Saturday 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service 1030 a.m. at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W 11 Mile Rd. 4 blocks E of Woodward, Royal Oak. Burial will take place at White Chapel Memorial Cemetery, Troy.
