Weinert Lepouttre, Gladys Cecilia, Age 101, died December 5, 2012. Gladys C. Rose was born to Albert and Lena July 11. 1911. She was a precocious child that excelled at dance and took formal ballet lessons as a teenager while dancing at such venues as the Book Cadillac and the Detroit Yacht Club. She left school in the 11th grade to dance at the newly opened Fox Theatre in 1928 as a member of the Tillerettes, the Detroit version of the New York Rockettes. Her svelte figure and winning smile lead to modeling opportunities at Sears and a high-end bridal shop in Hamtramck. Gladys married Leo Weinert, her high school sweetheart, in 1930 and began a forty-five year career as a mother to five children, and sister-in-law to Leo's six brothers. As an only child, she loved being in the middle of a large family. Over the years she was active in numerous volunteer groups: The Daughters of Isabella, Queen of Peace Cancer Sewing group, Queen of Peace Alter Society, Harper Woods Senior Citizens to name a few. She lost Leo in 1977 and a few years later married Morris A Lepouttre. They shared 20 wonderful years together on Anita in Harper Woods. For the last 10 year she has been a very active resident at Shorehaven Manor in Sterling Heights as an independent resident who served as a Shorehaven Ambassador welcoming new residents with her enthusiasm and friendly spirit.
