Elizabeth Cummings

February 28, 1920 — January 31, 2022

Newcastle

Elizabeth Flora Cummings (Toth) was born on the prairie north of Newcastle to Rose and John Toth on February 28, 1920. She was 101 when she passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Weston County Manor. Elizabeth was a resident of Newcastle, Wyoming.

When Elizabeth was six years old, the family moved to town. Her father worked in the coal mines of Cambria.  She loved growing up in town and was a regular at the movies; they were silent at the time and accompanied by a piano player.  She was a member of the high school basketball team and told us, “It was considered too strenuous for girls, so we could only play half-court.” Elizabeth became a member of the First United Methodist Church when she was fourteen years old.  She graduated from Newcastle High School in 1938.

Elizabeth Flora married John William Cummings on September 1, 1941, at the First United Methodist Church. To this union were born three children: Beth Ann on February 13, 1947, Michael Joseph on March 6, 1948, and Craig Louis on June 10, 1957.  They moved to their ranch 30 miles southwest of Newcastle in 1957. There they raised their children and ranched for over thirty years.  They moved north of Newcastle in 1980.

Elizabeth was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, V.F.W. Auxiliary, First United Methodist Church, Progressive Anns Extension Club, and the Busy Beavers.  One of Elizabeth's favorite things to do was travel. She visited forty-two states, traveled through Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean Islands.  From a young age, she saved letters, cards, and all momentos.  She was an avid stamp collector, bookworm, and prompt letter sender. It was guaranteed when we checked our mail, it would contain a note or card from Grandma. Elizabeth had a loving family, full of nieces, nephews, and children both grand and great who loved her dearly.  She will be missed by them all.

Elizabeth was reunited in heaven with her husband Bill, daughter Beth Ann, son Michael, parents John and Rose, and her ten brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son Craig (Tracie) Cummings; son-in-law Dick Crawford; grandchildren, Shane (Brenna) Crawford, Lance (Nora) Crawford, Travis (Marcie) Crawford, Cammy (Nick) Johnson, Mike (Mary) Cummings, Ty (Hannah) Cummings, and Colton (Jessica) Cummings; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 5, 2022, at the First United Methodist Church in Newcastle.  Memorials and condolences may be sent to the family in care of Meridian Mortuary, 111 S.
