Edward Myers

November 1, 1920 — September 18, 2012

Edward George Myers died peacefully in his sleep on September 18, 2012 at the age of 91. Born and raised in Detroit, he would eventually retire in New Port Richey, Florida until the death of his second wife, Katherine, and then return to Michigan for the remainder of his life. Edward was a proud World War II veteran, serving a tour in Europe. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, baseball especially watching his hometown Tigers, calling and assisting at senior Bingos, and trips to casinos, but that appeared to be more for people watching and the atmosphere, as he mostly stuck to the nickel slots. He retired after a lengthy career for Parke-Davis, a pharmaceutical company. Through three marriages, Edward built a large family. His second marriage to Katherine "Kay" nee Iaquinta until her death in 1998 was his lengthiest at 43 years, producing his only son, John. His most recent marriage was to Doris nee Rook of 13 years, which included five stepchildren: Chuck, Sandy, Gary, Kim and the late Shirley. Edward's first marriage to Mary nee Santoro of 14 years produced two daughters, Carol Austin and Patricia "Patti" Embleton. There were also four grandchildren and five great grandchildren through this marriage. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews through the marriages. Edward was the last of his siblings, preceded in death by brothers, Ted, George killed in action in WWII and Ernie, and sisters Bessie, Violet and Rosemary. The visitation will be Friday 3-9 p.m. at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W Eleven Mile Road 4 blocks E of Woodward, Royal Oak. Prayers Saturday 10 a.m. at the funeral home with procession immediately following to Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield for 11 a.m. service. The Rev. Thomas Slowinski will officiate the service. Memorials to Haven House are appreciated. Share your memories at www.sullivanfuneraldirectors.com.
